Our signature product, "Port Orford Cedar", takes its name from the local village of Port Orford. Our world renowned cedar has a delicate lacy texture and a unique pungent fragrance. We hand select the best native Oregon plant materials grown on our own farm and nearby forests to create the freshest products possible.
Company History
Oregon Wreath had its beginnings back in 1970 when John and Dolores Mayea began planting trees on the hills above Port Orford. Over the next several years John pain stakenly cleared the land and planted thousands of trees of varying species. His research, experimentation, and application were endless. John's work ethic set the standard, "up at dawn - home at dusk." Many a pre-dawn morning he walked the halls of the family home knocking on the bedroom doors and chortling, "Rise and Shine! Time's a wasting and trees are waiting to be planted!" All the kids and many of their friends were "invited" to attend many a tree planting or harvesting "party."
Big John was a unique and complex character, part mountain man, naturalist, hunter/gatherer, historian, farmer, clam digger, berry picker, wine maker, brew master and gardener extraordinaire. John set the pace in anything he attempted. His 5 children and their spouses, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren continue his legacy of quality and innovation. Oregon Wreath and everything it stands for spring from the heart and hands of Big John Mayea.
In September of 2006 the Mayea Family teamed up with the Mitchell Family so together we could better serve all of our clients. In 2008 the Mitchell Family acquired the entire business and continues to operate the company today on the foundation inspired by John Mayea. Thank You!
